In March of 2005 Mark Perlmutter (second in from left in picture below) had an eye opening experience at the Tree of Life in Patagonia, Arizona. It was at this time that he truly experienced first hand the magic of eating raw and living foods and had the inspiration to create the movie “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days.”

Three years later, now in December of 2008, countless people are benefiting from this film. People around the world are realizing that they can reverse their diabetes through good nutrition, something that has been known for years but never fully grasped by many.

The making of the film was not an overnight experience however. It took countless hours, numerous generous investors, a hard working team and a lot of luck! Below is a picture of the Raw for Thirty filming and editing team:

The making of this film is just the beginning. Getting it out to the masses is the true challenge. There are millions of diabetics around the world who still do not realize the effect their diet is having on their health.

Getting it out means overcoming the false information that diabetics have to be on medication forever. It means pushing past the drug companies that are holding back this information. It means creating an entire shift on how the world looks at food.

It may be a large task but at least it has begun…and hopefully with your help it will continue to grow.

I was just saying that fear has kept me in this place Diabetic for almost 18 years now.
Mostly because I do not want to have a seizure or fall out from low blood sugars. I have always felt that I would eventually prove every Dr. wrong and that I would come off my insulin and even though I had made progress I still have a way to go. I would love to be in a movie so I could take it to the Doctors that are telling me it is impossible. Show them my blood sugar readings and say now let others know there is hope.

    That would be awesome!

An email to my kids and sisters after being diagnosed with diabetes on October 31, 2008:
January 14, 2009 -Great news that I forgot to tell you! My blood sugar is way down again to 110 from 126 - thanks to one of three things - Jamie and I are drinking green smoothies daily (love them) and I exercise almost daily for 35 min., then I also take Blood Sugar Advantage (mostly cinnamon, chromium and alpha lipoic acid) from DrDavidWilliams.com, my vitamin guy. I’ve attached some of the green smoothie recipes Jamie told me about. I also make guacamole to snack on with celery, since the avocados are also fresh and raw. I’m finding that I really enjoy raw foods more and more. The recipes for raw foods are time consuming, but the guacamole is great. With my hydrator, I can keep temps down.

The diabetic books tell me to eliminate white potatoes, white rice, bread from highly refined flour (I’ve been using Ezekial raisin bread made with sprouted grains), corn products, beets, all refined sugars: sucrose (table sugar), corn syrup molasses, honey, sugared soft drinks, alcohol. I enlarged this list and post it on my frig!

Then to achieve a highly alkaline body system, I’ve cut out most cheese, meat and shell fish. Whole foods has GoLean kashi waffles which I toast and cover with a syrup of fruit spread (no sugar - whole foods) combined with a little butter :-(, and melted in the microwave for a bit.

This web site talks more about green smoothies and has recipes:

Good luck if you want to try it! I actually find I enjoy this way of eating more than “real” food! I’m still working on losing the weight I gained within the last two years, but already lost 13 lbs! - just with raw foods.

Is there any way possible to get experience on the living raw diet? I am interested in opening a small eatery that people can eat at with complete confidence in eating raw. I really like to cook and such but helping people seems to be more important than cooking.I also wanted to ask if you have response from people wishing for such a restaurant? I know I would like one close to home here in Washington state.just having experance of preparing the food would be really helpfull,I have made countless meals for my self but soon grew tired of the same flavors coming out.plus I got stuck on a few of my best tasting dishes and then grew tired of them as well.I feel like im asking for a job but that is where my heart is drawing me just to cut veg’s and live feed people well and live.

    Dan,
Could you be more specific for me? Are you looking for experience at the Tree of Life or any place? There are lots of places to get training on how to be a raw chef. There are also numerous raw restaurants around the country. Have you tried searching for one in your area.
Let me know what you’re looking for. :)

  5. Thanks! Nice post.

    Hi,
I am a teenager with Type 1 Diabetes and I know it is “incurable” but I read a couple stories of people being cured on this diet. I am eating pretty much as raw as possible at this point, and initially I had great improvements with my blood sugar. Now I keep ending up with a pretty high number every few days and have to raise my insulin. Any advice on incorporating extra nutrients or more exercise or anything? (I am working out about three times a week now)
    Thanks

I just want to thank the team for the DVD…I am “borderline” diabetic, and refuse to go down that road. I am trying to share the movie and the website with everyone I know. I facilitate workshops and I am a Life Coach, a Master Spiritual Life Coach and a Time Management Coach.

I also am struggling with AUTOIMMUNE issues and if the team is ever up for another challenge, I challenege you to do a DVD on reversing AUTOIMMUNE disease :-) I can be your first subject as i am going 100% RAW March 1, 2009, atleast for 30 days lol now will anything change in those first 30 days? only time will tell…I don’t think you can reverse autoimmune in 30 days but who knows right? :-) I’m looking at changing my lifestyle and if I reverse the autoimmune disease I have, that’s great…I know I’ll be getting healthy in the meantime :-)

GREAT GREAT GREAT job to all of you involved in the DVD on reversing diabetes! You’re all awesome! I bow in your honor!

I have been steadily more absorbed each day with the power of understanding our bodies and how we have been taught to abuse them under the guise of feeding them the SAD (Standard American Diet). The Movie Super Size Me really opened my eyes, but now that they are open, I am seeing a flood of information that should have been so obvious before. Nevertheless, there are still so many that don’t or won’t see, until enough of us help them by putting it everywhere in front of all people. We are all the same and we all will live better lives by feeding our bodies properly, and we will have more happiness and compassion as we feel better and are rid of the cancers that eat away at us.

Thank you all for your efforts, and I am joining your quest.

I am a nutritional consultant for The Academy of Natural Health & Wellness, (Mary-Ann Shearer). I am 95% raw myself, and have travelled the road of being very sick (Ankylosing Spondylitis, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, cataracts,Glaucoma Spastic colon, and Herpes). All of these conditions are managed very well by following The Natural Way, with lots of raw juices and foods, I now feel fantastic, drug free, with very little pain. I would still love to know if autoimmune diseases like A.S. and Fibromyalgia can be cured completely by raw foods? My sister is overweight type 2 diabetic, and is now following T.N.W.and losing weight and feeling better. I shall pass info to her also. If I can help here in South Africa please let me know!

    Thank you P.
