Hi Anna and Kristen–thanks for the info on colonics. Contrary to your comment about people preferring the closed system to the open system, Everyon I have talked with who have done both prefer the Libbe open system–are you familiar with that particular type. I even hear stories that the Libbe open system has often allowed the clients to have emotional clearings simply because they can have total control of the experience–Have you heard about anything like that. Any thoughts would be appreciated–Dick

I am about 45 pounds overweight and am a slave to my tastebuds! I love all that stuff you shouldn’t eat. I have asmatic bronchitis currently and have had a rash all over that itches day and night! they keep giving me steriods and antibiotics and inhalers. I know i need to change my diet and i will heal. I’m reading Kevin Trudeau’s book Natural cures and he also talks about several cleanses you need to do….but colonics? they cost too much!! I am on unemployment…and can no way do 15 colonics in 30 days like he suggests. I can’t even afford one! can i go to the health food store and do it with capsules? also he wants me to do a liver and gall bladder cleanse as well…any thoughts?

  3. Mr. Jan says:

I’ve been doing colonics for over a year because I have had a long standing problem with my gut…going on for over 20 years. About 4 1/2 years ago, I had a doctor tell me I had “late stage borreliosis” a.k.a. chronic Lyme disease. I’ve been investigating that since then and the two Lyme doctors I have seen have helped me more than any of the other (useless) doctors I saw in the past 22 years. Dr. Virginia Scherr talks about something called “Bell’s Palsy of the Gut” where the Lyme bacterium concentrates in the bowels. Lyme seems to be able to attack anywhere in the body, and it manifests differently in different people. I think I have a leaky gut and problems in the small bowel; I think chyme is getting hung up there. I read a book on Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth recommended by a Lyme doctor, and it said that the food stuff should transit the small bowel fairly rapidly and that the small bowel should be nominally bacteria free, that it should empty out into the large bowel. I think the number of ceacum releases I have during a colonic show that my transit times are too long. I don’t know if anyone else who is trying a raw food diet is having similar problems but wanted to lay out my case, just in case. An herbalist recommended I make a tea of American Ginseng root and Astragalus root and use that instead of coffee in the colonic for the “warming” (Chinese medicine terminology) effect, and that has helped a lot in improving the way I feel, but the effect only lasts for a couple of days. The tea (or decoction) is added to the colonic water in the last tank/stage and I try to hold it in as long as possible for absorption and the soothing effect it has. I am considering adding organic ginger root to the tea and see if that also helps. I have had a lot of stuff come out that looks like “toilet paper”…little tiny pieces that could be mucus or…I don’t know what. Any thoughts?

While working as a colonic therapist, I had an insight/inspiration I’d like to share. The first half of the colon (ascending + transverse to the navel) is where the body’s water is recycled. Water holds MEMORY. We hide our deepest, darkest, most painful, shameful secrets in our colons. Prior to colonic therapy, all our recirculated water not only brings toxins to the entire body, but the shames and pains we’re hiding where the sun don’t shine. Once the colon is clean, the memories surface, and the recycled water is no longer contaminated. This contamination is not just physical. It’s mental, emotional, and spiritual, too. Colon hydrotherapy allows us to let go of the pain, the shame, the trauma, etc. Cleansing takes place on all levels of our existence, not just the physical (although the physical level is where most of us are most in trouble). I wish everyone who reads this health and peace!

  5. i’ve been a colon hydrotherapist for 9 years now - so of course i truly appreciate any good information or publicity to come my chosen professions way. i became a colon hydrotherapist because the work itself greatly benefited me personally while i was engaged in some serious health challenges. it is definitely an important part of a health program, but it is just a part. what i’m saying is that as long as you are ‘a slave to your taste buds’ you will also be a slave to some sort of illness or imbalance.
as far as typeof equipment, i use a closed system, and i see that it tends to go somewhat regionally. in california where i practice, there are more closed systems to open systems. people tend to prefer them. i do. i’ve taken several ‘rides’ on open systems, libbes included, and i prefer the closed-system experience. that is why i practice on one. i do suggest to anyone checking out colon hydrotherapy that you try one of each and decide for yourself.
    take care - shea

  6. Hello!! I have had seven consecutively, weekly colonics and then 1 every 2 weeks for 3 months and have experienced great results. I have gluten allergy and dairy, casien, garlic which has caused painful stomach for years and through a new Naturopath, i have been able to get all this straightened out. Feeling much better!!

  7. After being a rawfoodist for over a year I went in for colon hydrotherapy.I was very surprised by the results . I had no idea that I was holding on to something so horrible even after a year of eating raw foods. I am looking forward to going back again sometime soon .

  8. Lesliee says:

I have been using colonics for the past 6 months or so. I have gone to a high-raw diet, and often juice and water fast for short periods. My body tells me when it’s time to get some therapy, so I listen and make the appointment.

It isn’t the most pleasant thing in life, but after it’s over, I feel like a million bucks! Almost like all of my cells are saying “Ahhhh! thank you!!”

I’ve spent over 40 years eating the wrong food… I have a bit of making up to do. Disease is caused by toxicity and deficiency. Addressing the detox is half the job.

  9. Kathie says:

Over the years I have referred many of my students to a colon hydrotherapist, with mixed results. Many just could not give up their food addictions, and others were very emotionally involved with things that should have been buried years before. Working with 12-step people presented several challenges, as food is their last addiction. They seemingly are comfortable with that addiction.
Something that works for everyone is something that Dr. Darrel Wolfe (thewolfeclinic.com) recommends: Royal Tea. Dr. Wolfe was the president of the North American Colon Association for over 11 years, and tried every modality known for cleansing. It is Royal Tea that works the best. It cleanses the whole alimentary canal from the mouth all the way through the rectum. It is a very mild tea made from Holy Thistle, Marshmallow Leaf, Persimmon Leaf, and Malva Leaf. It is simple to make and refreshing to drink.
So many people have clogged their small intestines with undigestable junk, like gluten in wheat products and casein in dairy products (literal glues!)that their small intestine is no longer functioning properly. I know, I was one of these people, and as a result, ended up with trigeminal neuralgia, which the neurologist that I saw told me was “incurable”. The good news is that I have been completely well for over 10 years!! Praise God!!
Dr. Wolfe also does over the phone consultations. The first call is $95, and thereafter is totally FREE for the rest of your life. I always urge my students to write down everything they want to talk about before they call, so they don’t forget anything. Dr. Wolfe also has what he calls an Overnight Chronic Illness Fast. It’s really a 4-day fast of doing something every half hour for 12 hours each day. He has listed everything you need to do in a chart form. Go ahead and read up on it. Peace be with you!

After listening I guess I’m going fro sure now lol. I can have excuses as long as my arm :-( So I guess 4 in the next 8 weeks :-)

  11. Wheatgrass Sue says:

    Hey,
I am getting a colonoscopy in two days.
Asked my Dr. about colonics. I have done them with wheatgrass implants.
He said they do you no good….but actually I did not think he ever cared
    what they were???
Well, I am over 50 and this procedure is recommended so to the Outpatient
clinic at the hospital and get put under, out for the procedure.
Drink Moviprep solution and fast the day before….a laxative??
No big deal. But I still have one colonic left and wonder if I should
continue doing them???? The colonoscopy is a Nikon shoved up your butt
to look for polyps or tumors.
Well, if you have a gut problem use probiotics, yogurt, homemade, Lifeway (10)
kifer, or Stoneyfield Farms (6 cultures) not that fake stuff with no live
cultures just Gelatin. If you do antibiotics, replace the good bacteria
with Bio-K, 50 billion soldiers of good bacteria to fight those bad guys
in your gut….drink wheatgrass, don’t eat those breads that stick in your
    colon….try sprout bread….Ezekiel.
There should be a class in grade school….how to eat for good nutrition and
health. Learning this after 50 years old is something one should learn at 5.
    Namaste, Sue

  12. admin says:

    Sue,

Keep in mind that many doctors will tell you that colonics do you no good but they typically know nothing about them. Just like nutrition they get little to no training in this area. It’s always good to get more than one doctors opinion. How does your doctor look? Does he look healthy? Does he eat well? It’s important to ask lots of questions, with anybody that gives you health information, and to not just trust all health opinions at face value…including mine! :)

  13. Connie Crew says:

I’m just getting into raw food, but have had several colonics (using the closed system) and have experienced (once) the emotional clearing that’s talked about. Amazing! Who knew emotions were buried deep inside? It makes perfect sense now, but it was odd at the time. I like the idea of a schedule of colonics progressing to monthly or quarterly maintenance. I work with a gastroenterologist (I’m a RN) who tells me he does not agree with colon hydrotherapy and then proceeds to give reasons contrary to what the research (and experience-mine and others) suggests. I’m wondering if it’s really because many GE’s would be out of business if everyone got their guts in order with proper diet, exercise and colon hydrotherapy? Alternative health topics sure make for lively conversations! Thanks for your little teleclass, I enjoyed hearing about your approach (which sounds amazing); I’ve not seen anything else like it in my area.

    Hi maryjane,

My name is Anita and I am a colon hydro therapist. I understand your challange with the cost of colonics and there are ways to help yourself at home. There is a great website (not mine) that you can glean alot of information from its called HPS-online.com they have a program that walks you through the colon cleansing process. You will need to have your own colema board. I started out this way myself and the results have been so miraculis I went and got certified so I too can help other people. good luck with taking charge of your health.

    highest and best blessings,
    Anita

  15. Helma says:

Hi, l enjoyed your interview….. l have been to the Ann Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico and have done quite a bit of raw food….
l have had many colonics along with liver cleanses but am running into a problem….. and that is….. that when getting a colonic l leak so much that the practitioner has to change the pad at least 10 and often more times which now makes not want to go anymore……. why is the leaking ???? and l have been to many different colon hydro therapists and it is not their problem or the equipment…….. is it because l have a prolapsed colon as well as a dropped bladder ……
would love to hear your opinion….. thank you
    Blessings,
    Helma

I have had 3 colonics and they did wonders for me. However due to financial changes I can no longer afford to go to the lady who was helping me. I would very much like to be able to find some simple equipment…(the speculum and tubing) so that I could do it myself. I have a colenema board and the filters. I have done juice fasting and wheatgrass and I feel like I’m ready to go further.
my e-mail address is angeltoestats@hotmail.com. if anyone could tell me where I could purchase the equipment I need I could really get feeling to my peak. I’m almost there but have a few more things to work out.

  17. Amy says:

I have had one colonic. It was horrible. It burned so bad and I constantly felt like I had to go. It continued to burn for hours later. The therapist could not even finish the treatment. I have BM’s every day and have done cleases. I am determined to be healthy and lose more weight. I have since done coffee enemas. I can hold them with no problems. I do get the racing heart and cold body temp from the enema. I also can’t do that before bed or I won’t sleep. I assume I have a “leaky gut” because I know I am not supposed to have those reactions. I know I have some colon blockages or issues because I can feel them. I have also done some research on enzymes. They make my stomach and intestines hurt very badly which is why I have not been able to go all the way raw. I had read that again, that may be a “leaky gut”. I like most americans are broke and can’t afford much of anything. My husband and I also own and opperate a health food store to help others which just hurts the broke problem and leaves me with little time for my self or my family of 5. What do you reccommend.

  18. Kristen Overlock says:

I’m glad that the emotional cleansing was brought up in this thread. I have seen so many people shed years of trauma, shame/guilt, grief and much more while transitioning to raw food in conjunction with cleaning their colon. The colon is our second brain and holds memories as well.

As for the different types of systems out there, everyone has their own personal preference. I encourage eveyone to try each system and find out what works best for them. I personally prefer the closed system, but again that’s just me.

If colonics are too expensive, water enemas or colema boards work great. An enema bag costs a few dollars and colema board systems can be a bit more expensive.

If you are leaking a lot using a closed colonic system, you may want to try an open system for more comfort.

  19. Kristen Overlock says:

I want to emphasize that colon hydrotherapy is only part of the healing process. It is not the only part nor is it the most important part. There are many paths to wellness and the journey is unique for each of us:)

  20. Edith Meyer says:

My healthy life started by colonics: They cleansed my system that well, and they made me feel that free and feel as another psychoconditional personality, that I spontaneously felt the need to do away with salty cooked foods, without ever having read about this theme. I broke the rhythm of colonics combined with juice fasts and usual periods of salty cooked foods in everyday life: I grew spontaneously towards life foodism, completely personally out of my own needs. After my system grew very fine and healthly, I started to eat more and more unhealthy foods again, but I know how great it is to live dietetically as a life foodist with one colonic a year.
I have an alpha one antitrypsin deficiency syndrome with asthmatic hyperreagibility, and I tell especially to all asthma patients that salt, dairy products and cereal products can make lots of mucus. The mucus causes infections of the airways and other terrible symptoms like coughing the mucus out of the system and so on. So if ever there’s no money to pay the colonic therapist, it’s also a very great help to do away with the worst foods like dairy and industrial salty cooked foods. It’s a real adventure, to learn to know the body’s needs. It has enormous potentials in creating happiness and better meanings of life, and you’ll learn that it also has enormous potentials to get used to all poisons you are fed with since early childhood! If you get severely diseased, you might be too late to change your habits.

  21. Dana says:

I am planning on having my first colonic soon. Is it customary to tip your hydro-therapist?

    Thanks!!

  22. Marie Pence says:

Colonics are a must for every single person living in this toxic world that
we’ve created. There are over 7,000 environmental toxins..and our foods
are loaded with thousands of pesticides and chemicals. Add, a lack of organic
raw fruits and vegetables and lack of fiber, in general. This creates a very
toxic, overloaded system which makes us tired, sluggish, depressed…and sucks
    our vitality dry!

I have a private practice on Bainbridge Island and have given over 300,000
colonic (GRAVITY only) treatments. I do not like the machines and I do not
believe they stimulate one’s peristalic action. I have had thousands of
clients come in who have experienced colonic treatments all over the U.S.
and have NEVER experienced a ‘cecum’ release. The cecum is the end of the
colon (assuming the anus is the beginning) and MUST dump. Otherwise, the
person will experience ‘auto-intoxication’ and feel even worse after the
treatment. INNERGY! Marie Pence (206 842-4505

Hi,I am 59 years old and have allmost 9 years flushes. I want to ask you about wheat grass, I am from Holland and there is no wheat grass. Can I buy it somewhere in pills of dry so I can put water into? I eat raw food and in the beginning I had a lot of gas in my stomach, when I eat bread or rice or potatoes than I have a big stomach. Do you have an advice.
    bk

  24. Kristen Overlock says:

You can grow your wheatgrass from hard
red winter wheatberries. You can order
organic seeds online or find them at
your local healthfood store. Ann Wigmore’s
Wheatgrass Book is also a great resource.

  25. Susan says:

This message is for Maryanne who noted being 45 lbs. overweight and dealing with a skin rash - steroids/antibiotics etc. Several months ago I was talking with a woman I work with who was complaining of continual itching and periodic unexplainable rashes. As I spoke with her and asked some specific questions . . . I encouraged her to significantly reduce or eliminate the amount of sugars and carbs she was eating. Her doctor her prescribed various medications which of course were only dealing with the symptoms and not the root cause of the problem. I’m happy to report that she is off her medication and has gone down two pant sizes (she has much more weight to lose than you). She more than likely was dealing with an overgrowth of candida in her system. Since you are unemployed and looking for suggestions that could help you physically and financially . . . changing your diet would be one immediate way to have a positive effect. By the way - fruit would be considered a sugar at least in the early stages of your dealing with this imbalance.

    Peace.

  26. Lynn says:

I agree that the closed system is preferable. A trained and experienced colon hydrotherapist is with you throughout the treatment to maintain your comfort, do massage/Reiki/acupressure, etc. Many things happen throughout a treatment and the therapist keeps eyes on the situation at all times and helps the client understand what is happening, what is coming out of the body, etc. A MUCH more effective treatment happens when the water flow is expertly controlled, the body is assisted in relaxation and the colon has the opportunity to really let go and release. That is the KEY! There is no comparison and a client should never be left alone in a treatment. Some may think that the open system is better and allows the client control, but the client always has control with the closed system through their therapist who checks in, asks pertinent questions and listens intently. I have had both types of treatments. I became a colon therapist and I have given myself treatments on both machines. I get the best CONTROL and releases on a closed system. That being said…different strokes for different folks. We have 2 types of systems available. Not everyone will like just one. Know thyself, but don’t presume to say which one is right for the next guy. I just know which one works best with most people. :)

  27. Lynn says:

Eating raw vegan (giving up dairy, meat, starches, processed foods, again-sugars) will also clear up skin problems and just about everything else that ails you. The weight (50# for me) melted off effortlessly.

  28. Robertcolon says:

Raw foods are a great way to go. My friend had major heart problems.. had 5 bypass opperation 10 years ago and had more heart attacks lately. Switched to raw foods and his cholestorol has dropped dramatically. Looks the healthiest I’ve seen him in 20 years.
I had my first colon flush over 20 years ago. A somewhat different expereince:-)
Been into a healthy alternate lifestyle since.

  29. Billy Bee says:

I highly recommend a “salt water flush” as a cheap and non-invasive alternative to colonics and enemas. Google it. All you do is take 1 tablespoon of natural non-iodized sea salt with one litre of filtered water on an empty stomach. In an hour you’ll have your enema. Make sure you take probiotics as you do this as well.

Works great, it’s safe, and cheap!
