  3. This is fantastic Alex. Since screening your film Simply Raw here in Loveland, Colorado, I am 75% raw and introducing more and more raw food into my families diet. Thank you for yet another recipe I know they will love.

  4. Ron says:

Sounds like a great recipe but I’m a little confused about the hummus. Is this raw and if so how do you make it?

  5. Sandy says:

Hi, Great demonstration. I haven’t tried it yet but will. I also use sprouts and something called mock tuna made with sprouted almonds.
    Thanks,

    Sandy

  6. symea says:

  7. Alex, Thank you so much for showing me how simple making sushi is! I love California rolls and you have showed me you can put anything you like into a sushi roll. How easy and good for you! I loved seeing your baby and you are so lucky and blessed with a beautiful wife and your raw for life biz. God Bless you and your business and family. 8. Hi,

I loved the video and can’t wait to make it! By the way, what kind of knife did you use?
I’m just getting into raw food, and have most all of the utensils and appliances, but haven’t figured out which knife is best.
ps you’re son is a real cutiepie!

My homemade dehydrator works wonders …. for two years I have used a storebought
round el cheapo plastic dehydrator, take off the noisy ineffective heater, replace
with nice quiet and inexpensive ceramic heater (heat adjust.), place baker silicon
sheets especially cut for the round hole in center and viola!! this replaced my cardboard box
aluminum foil and 60W bulb … too bulky, wife hated the space and looked homemade OOPS!

  12. Darag Rennie says:

Sounds great Alex. I’m looking forward to trying it ourselves:)!!!

  13. Cheryl says:

We started eating RAW 2 months ago, I’ve lost 25 pounds, and feel great! My kids love sushi, so this will be something we will be making. My Mom is a diabetic on insulin and 13 other drugs. (ugh) We saw simply raw and now with advise from her liver specialist too - she is eating fruits, nuts and veggies; has cut her insulin back by 2/3 already and is working to get off insulin completely, and other meds too!! Loving this positive impact of eating Raw!!

  14. Gail says:

Thanks! This is a great recipe to add to our collection. I was pre-diabetic 8 months ago and have lost over 50 lbs. First I relesed flour and sugar, then most animal products and am now doing about ~80% raw.

  15. Jannai Pero says:

Fantastic - thanks - I also teach health and raw foods - and am on a mission to help educate and PREVENT DISEASE -

  16. Judith Becker says:

Thank you so much. I am a new “Raw Foodie” vegan since watching Simply Raw about two months ago. I have never had sushi, but your video has tempted me to try making it soon. I had my A1c yesterday; in early May it was 6.3 and yesterday it was 5.7, thanks to your movie. I really appreciate your efforts in getting the word out that Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease. My doctor said he did not believe I could get the numbers down just by making lifestyle changes, so we shall see what he says the next time I see him. Now if I can just get my underactive thyroid to start working again after being on levothyroxin for 21 years, I will be absolutely thrilled - and maybe eating more of the raw foods with sea vegetables will wake it up. Again, thank you so very much.

  17. lauren says:

Yummm. My friend made kim bop the other day which can be made raw, with lots of veggie options. She put tofu in hers and had pickled giner and soy sauce for dipping. yum,.

  18. Dorothy says:

Thank you so much for all your work. I have your DVD’s, Simply Raw and The Ulitimate Encyclopedia of The Raw Food Lifestyle, and your sushi looks so good!

  19. Pat Lee says:

I enjoyed it. Looks pretty easy until the rolling.

  20. Rose Allnatt says:

This looks fantastic. I will be making it soon. Thank you so much.Great video and your wife and son are precious to.

  21. Abakash says:

Can you help us out with the hummus - recipe or brand name.
As far as I know, store bought hummus may be organic, but is not raw.
Tried making some with sprouted chick peas but it was nasty.
Did see a recipe some time ago that used zucchini and was OK.

Otherwise looks tasty & healthy, thanks for sharing.

  22. Juliet says:

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. I am struggling to make the transition to raw but feel more motivated when I watch someone making something as it is always easier than I think. Thank you and I would be very keen to watch more videos of raw dishes.

  23. admin says:

Yes, store bought hummus is not raw but for those that are not 100% raw it is a great alternative to make this recipe easier and faster. Better to make sushi with store bought organic hummus than to not make it at all and eat junk food. :)

I’ll have to do a video to show how to make raw hummus soon. It’s actually very easy. Thanks for the feedback.

  24. Jameela says:

    Hey you guys,

The Sushi video was very informative. I will be trying this recipe just as soon as I get some free time. Also, it is amazing how you reversed your diabetes in 30 days. I have a family history of Diabetes in my family. I am trying not to develop it.

  25. admin says:

    Hi Jameela,

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, I have never had diabetes. My reason for involvement in the film is because I am passionate about helping others learn about raw and living foods and also because I had an uncle pass away in his mid 40’s after having a quadruple bi-pass heart surgery. He was a Type 1 diabetic who unfortunately did not know how much his diet was affecting him. His heart issues came on very suddenly and ended his life at a young age. If he had been able to see the film at the time it may have saved his life…

    Thanks for your support!

    Alex Ortner

  26. Erlor Dean says:

I would love to see the video of the reversal of Diabetes, as I am a diabetic.
I read something about a man who reversed his diabetes in 30 days…which type, was it type #1 or type #2? Thanks a lot. Mrs. Dean

  27. Alice Harper says:

The intro music and the finish music makes you want to rip your head set off! Way too loud. Turn it down! Video is excellent. I learned how to use the roll mat. THanks!
    Alice

  28. Jude Manche says:

Hey Thanks for this demo - I loooove veg sushi, but I could never get the hang of the rolling up to now. That tucking in obviously does the job! Keep those demos coming. Have been 80 -100% raw for 2 months and have lost about 10 kgs (which is about 22lb I think) - I feel soooo much better. It’s not just the weight loss and feeling lighter to move my body around, but I can feel the lightness in my cells.
    Jude

  29. Jos says:

Thanks for the great recipe I really like this variation.
The hummus is a really good idea raw or not.
I make a recipe for raw sushi that has carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, avocado, and seaweed previously soaked and the base is nut pate. From now on I will replace the nut pate with the hummus as it is going to make it a lot lighter.
    Thanks again,
    Jos
PS - Your little baby boy Malakai is a beautiful baby!

  30. One thing to consider is that some of the nori is contaminated with malonic acid, a biproduct of tapeworm stage elimination, which is present in cancer patients. To investigate more about this, please read “The Cure for All Diseases” by Dr. H. Clark.
I’ve found that wrapping the wonderful ingredients in just kale or some other dark green leaf is great too, and may be safer. Keep up the good work, Alex. I tell people about you all of the time and am so glad you are using this type of medium to get the work out! Looking forward to seeomg you at the Raw Spirit Festivals again.

  31. Fransie says:

When you DO have a video to show how to make raw hummus, ready, please let us know.

My variation of sushi is simply:

Spread hummus on a celery stalk (in the groove) and roll a Nori sheet firmly around it. Wet your fingers with water to seal the edges of the sheet.
Cut into little bite-sized pieces and enjoy. They get tastier and the Nori gets softer after waiting covered in the fridge for an hour or so.

Easy to do and tasty; look appetising and is a conversation starter on top of it, too.

  32. maggie says:

i think i will trying this..this weekend!!! it looks amazing..and you made it look easy to make:) thank you so much!!!

  33. Robin Ives says:

    Alex,
Thank you! for your advocacy for reversing diabetes.
You know it can be done.
    Dr. Gabriel Cousens knows it.
So does Dr. Robert O. Young.
Also the many diabetics who have reversed type 2 diabetes.
    Rock on!
    Robin

  34. luci ryan says:

Love your recipe. Will delete the ginger and add peppers or pepper sauce to the hummus as I like a bit of spice.

  35. liv mcc says:

this was an awesome vid! I am borderline diabetic and getting recipes that are safe as well as nutritional are tough sometimes. The biggest surprise was no fish. I cannot do fish. Now I will do this recipe with garlic added to the ginger, spinach instead of cilantro yogurt instead of hummus. Thanks also for sharing your beautiful family, many wishes for health and happiness. Happy Holidays!!

  36. liv mcc says:

One more thing heard the interview on Coasttocoastam.com. It was great!!

  37. Linda says:

I learned how to roll, I hadn’t figured that out yet. one thing we do is put our sushi in a rice wrapper. I don’t no that they are considered raw? but I didn’t no how to use the nori. thanks so much. I want to do something for raw thanksgiving. looking forward to learning how to make raw hummus. keep up the good motivational work. thanks.

  38. Linda says:

I wanted to thank Don Hall for the bread recipe. I make flax crackers that are similar. so am looking forward to trying this version.

  39. Erin says:

I’ve found that almonds (with a touch of water) pureed into a food processor (I just use a blender but it’s a pain in the butt) makes a very realistic looking and tasting white rice for the sushi. You know- instead of the hummus. Also Bragg’s sauce instead of soy sauce. I HIGHLY recommend trying the almonds- super tasty.

  40. caroline says:

this sounds great, but I dont like nori. what other wrappers can be used?

  41. SR says:

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for both videos. Congratulations again on your son. You and your wife seem so happy and proud and you should be. He is a real cutie! Thanks also for the sushi video. I never thought about using hummus. I usually use a mock tu-no-fish made from sunflower seeds. But this is another option. Most of all, I appreciate your balanced approach to promoting raw foods through the rdn movement and Simply Raw. Some other Raw Food proponents feel preachy and/or opportunistic (always trying to hard sell something). I also don’t see anyone else trying to promote a grassroots approach to Raw Foodism. You seem sincere. So again, thank you.

    Regards,

    SR

  42. admin says:

    SR,

That’s really nice of you to say. Thank you for the kind words. :) :) :) :)

    -Alex

  43. Jeff Joyce says:

Awesome, I will have to try this. Thanks for all your work on these important issues.

  44. Barbara says:

I have made the raw sushi before only not with the hummas. I cannot tolerate the taste of garbonzo beans, so I use a paste made from the avacado or pintos or black beans, whatever I have on hand. I have not tried it with the cilantro, but it sounds good so I will in the future. Thanks for the videos!

  45. melanie lee says:

Wow! Looks delicious and nutritious. Love sushi. Great without the carbs. Will definitely try it. Thank you.

  46. Susan says:
