What are your thoughts on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy? I really want to increase my libido which has changed significantly since menopause. If you believe that bio-identical hormones are not healthy what else do you suggest? I already am about 80% raw and I exercise all the time. I feel I may be eating too many sweet fruits but that is all that may be wrong with my diet. What do you recommend?

I am thinking about starting phase 1. I am a thin diabetic and am concerned about weight loss. Can you give me your thoughts. Thank you,
    Scott

  3. Leslie says:

I am about half way through the book it is great! Thank you Dr. Cousens for all you are doing to help people find health.

Raw vegan is the way to go!

I am also a skinny Type 2…. lost about 15 lb when the diabetes was hitting full force. So I am working to build muscle, strength and weight while practicing “caloric restriction”. I have always been very active: equine endurance riding and now walking 1-2 miles per day and working out with free weights and resistance bands. I live within an hour of the Tree of Life center in Patagonia and enjoyed a raw lunch there a few weeks ago. My goal is to heal myself from diabetes, and Dr Cousens’ book has been a tremendous resource (I’m running 60-80% raw and juicing daily) — thank you for all you do!

  5. I was diagnosed with Type 1 ….16 months ago , I am 53 and have been doing the raw diet for 8 years. I know now how in-correctly I was doing it. Diabetes is in my family my brother has had it for 39 years. I was able to do a cleanse for 6 days and reduced my insulin to 1 shot of Lantus 10 units……I was so happy to not take 3 or 4 shots a day……but not being able to do the focus of the 21 day program because of work and life which I know would take me off insulin. So I am sad to say I am back to 3 shots a day. My body became even more sensivtive so I am very careful of my food in take and continue to green juice and wheat grass and sprout and eat a well balanced raw living diet. What do you think about the master cleanse with wheat grass added?

  6. I am a Type 2 diabetic and have six days of eating raw under my belt. I’ve been off all oral meds completely for three days. Although my numbers are excellent, the latest one showing 90, I am eating fruit, nuts, and veggies only. When Dr. Cousens says no sugar, he is talking about white processed sugar, right? In the “Simply Raw” video or in this interview, I’m not sure whether I’ve ever heard Gabriel Cousens talk about fruit. I used to have horrible stomach issues, but since going raw, I’m good at this point. I usually eat fruit in the morning and maybe one other time in the day. Is fruit okay to eat?

  7. admin says:

    Hi Janet,

Dr. Cousens does not recommend eating fruit because of the sugar. If my memory is correct I believe he says you can reintroduce some fruit after something like 60 or 90 days (I’d have to check his book because that’s where I read it!) :) I recommend reading his book because that will answer all of your questions. ;)
    Hope this helps. :)

Hello, I just finished watching the video on diabetes. I found it extremly educational and uplifting. I am what I call a myself a type one and a half diabeteic. I was diagonsed at forty years old and am on a insulin pump. I studied with a pioneer in the field Dr. Richard k. Bernstein. He personally trained me for three and a half days one on one. His approach basically was a no to extremely low carb diet. ( basically the atkins diet ) It does work but is very hard to maintain. For quite sometime my A1C was around 5.2, since then my cheese has fallen off the cracker and my blood glucose levels have risin quite a bit. I am very interested in the raw diet but I cannot understand how the high carb content in the grains and raw pasta do not significantly raise the blood sugars. If you could be so kind to give me some insight into this I would appreciate it. In this terrible recession we are having my business and earnings have been drastically cut. I am desperate to cut my insulin and pump expenses down or out of my life. So for me it is for health and financial reasons I need a new alternative.
    Please respond,
    Respectfully yours,
    Eric Spiegel

I have been diabetic since 1993. I am looking into this diet and I have had alot of trouble with low blood sugars. Dr. Cousen says in the interview to avoid sugar all together. So what should I use to compensate for the low blood sugars?

  10. Dianne Barrett says:

T-1 47 yrs.,dx@age 7, allergic to formaldehyde which is preserving Novarapid insulin and thyroid medications - wt. gain of 60 lbs. overnight in 1996 when human insulins were started. Considering raw to get off insulin I’m allergic too but was wondering if anyone knows of thyroid meds that don’t use formaldehyde as a preservative? Have lowered thryoid meds so far and am off blood pressure pills so feel much better but have a long ways to go yet.

  11. Rosie Kay says:

I got so much information from the interview–I have been so concerned–my first
grand-daughter-5 mos. (my son is Type I), was having signs of pain and or seizures (?) –irritability, arching her back, arms bent up at the sides of her head/pulling her hair/fists clenched/screaming… sometimes she would wake from sleep when she would jerk her legs out straight…AND excessive drooling, etc. At first I thought it might be because her mother is epileptic since infancy… but found that is quite rare…THEN I thought it might be the immunizations… (I’m a nurse and have seen excessive secretions w/pancreatitis) SO, when I listened to your interview a few days ago, I was sure the baby’s symptoms are because of the vaccines and the milk in her formula. I ordered your book because I want the sources for the studies you mentioned to show the Pediatrician. THANK YOU….

type 1 since 1964…everyone needs to excercise firstly. Next, try no carbs, only sprouts or sprouting seeds. I was off all meat for 23 years, until i became very weak! I recently began to eat organic, grass fed meat, then turkey, salmon, eggs and cheese. My strength came back, and blood sugar much much better. I think the no carb and all meat diet is good, i ask God toforgive me, but I want to CURE this problem. The regular insulin is the easiest to kick! So stop all carbs, don’t CHEAT!!! Oh, don’t forget the omegas from fish oil, spirulina, blue green algae, zink calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D…try 20 minutes both sides of the body everyday. Try the penta water at night, little sips only. The green drink of celery, cucumber, and kale has low natural sugar, and can be fasted with for 10 days easily…test the blood as a maniac for the cure…., God Bless :~ )

  13. George says:

I am not a diabetic and it does not run in my family but here’s something new…I have a cat who was recently diagnosed with diabetes as well as heart disease! I give him caninsulin 6.5cc 2x’s a day. He’s only 12 years old! To me, this is a young cat. I once had a cat that lived to be 23 so my little guy is just a teenager to me. Something is wrong in this world when people and pets are getting these kind of diseases. I have been slowly introducing a raw meat diet to my cat. Cats are carnivores. They don’t like vegetables so Dr. Cousen’s diet doesn’t help me. This is the second cat that has had diabetes that I’ve owned. They were both fed commercially prepared kibble and canned foods from age 6-8wks. Apparently diabetes is on the rise in pets nowadays. I had never heard of animals having such diseases until I was almost 50. It’s hard to test the cat’s blood as I have to prick the tiny vein that runs around the outer edge of his ear. I am looking into homeopathics for help in trying to reverse this disease and so far Vanadium, prepared homeopathically, has shown promise with some cats. Perhaps Dr. Cousens could expand his expertise and include the animal kingdom in his research before the pandemic explodes in this area, too.

  14. Robin says:

I was diaginosed with Type II Diabatic for 9 yrs ago. I have the DVD set Raw for 30 days and simply raw. I have imbarked on my raw food journey with my husbands support, he is doing it with me. This is week three and we are probably 80 percent raw. My question is how do I safely get off my inulin and other meds. I asked my Dr. the same question and he does not support the RAW food diet for any of his patients. In fact he told me I would get sicker and end up int he hospital if I tried it. So, i am in the process of looking for a new dr. but in the mean time.. i started cutting ,my insulin in half and my num, bers were good. SO i cut again, and they went up this time. SO I tried cutting the Metforim and my BG went up again. Am I doing it too fast? or not eating the right combinations? I also would like to get off the high blood pressure meds and cholertoral meds….. any ideas?????
