I was diaginosed with Type II Diabatic for 9 yrs ago. I have the DVD set Raw for 30 days and simply raw. I have imbarked on my raw food journey with my husbands support, he is doing it with me. This is week three and we are probably 80 percent raw. My question is how do I safely get off my inulin and other meds. I asked my Dr. the same question and he does not support the RAW food diet for any of his patients. In fact he told me I would get sicker and end up int he hospital if I tried it. So, i am in the process of looking for a new dr. but in the mean time.. i started cutting ,my insulin in half and my num, bers were good. SO i cut again, and they went up this time. SO I tried cutting the Metforim and my BG went up again. Am I doing it too fast? or not eating the right combinations? I also would like to get off the high blood pressure meds and cholertoral meds..... any ideas?????

in stead of the humus, you can use tahin.
it's sesameseed-butter, you can buy it either from roasted or raw sesame seed. should be on the label.
make it softer by adding lemon juice, bit of salt and water, mix well.
tastes more nutty than the humus.
with spices or herbs it makes a good spread as well.

I've had some delicious raw sushi made with sprouted almond flesh that's left over after making almond milk. It replaces the humus and provides a texture closer to that of cooked rice in the regular sushi. Red peppers and carrots are also great for providing colour and taste.

The nori sheet is made of seaweed. The tricky bit is finding nori made with dried, not roasted, seaweed for those that want to be 100% raw. A bit of moisture helps to seal the roll. A wedge of lemon wiped across the closing lip of the nori sheet works very well.

Great video-thank you! Have only ever made Sushi with rice before and would NOT have thought of this. Remind me of the other name for Cilantro?? Is it what we call Watercress here? As others have said, the Raw Hummus Recipe would be good. Blessings.

I enjoyed your top five secrets for the raw food cleanse although I have never done one. I almost never watched your raw sushi video as I thought all sushis had raw fish in them. I will certainly try making this dish.
For someone who has never done a cleanse what kind of cleanse would you recommend me to do?
Also I am interested in finding out the answers to some of the above questions other people asked. Is there a place to view your responses?

Thanks for sharing these two videos.

Alex,

I hope you will do the raw hummus recipe soon, at least add it to your website in written form. I have not found a good raw hummus recipe that doesn't make my stomache feel like something isn't quite right, so I have gone back to cooked hummus.

I'm trying to figure out how you make money, you give everything away!!

I watched the video, walked to the kitchen and made this sushi! I used sprouted almond hummus, which is easier for me to digest than garbanzo beans. I saw you going really heavy on the ginger, and I was thinking, "I'll have to start slow and work up to that," but it's not overpowering at all! I want more! I made the first one just like yours, and I declare it delicious! I made another one with a little less of the same ingredients and added red peppers and sauerkraut! I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. Thank you!

I like the 5 tips. I have never tried all raw but have your simply raw dvd and am interested in doing at least a raw cleanse every now and then, so need all the tips I can get. Also liked the video on raw "sushi". I didn't know what that was going to be. I love all the ingredients you used so will try that soon too.
Also want to tell you how much I love your whole family. I am impressed with the sincerety in all of you and really enjoyed the tapping summit.

You and your brother and sister put out the best videos on subjects for which you have passion and share the work of others who are also passionate about what they are doing. This new marketing style is so refreshing because you really GIVE something rather than just sell something. It shows your commitment to the work, and as a result many of us have bought all the videos you have. Thanks so much for this great service to all of us, and for making your products FUN as well as informative!

Do you have (or can you recommend) online video/s for the newly pregnant who is just learning the raw foods lifestyle? Would also like to find a video where raw pregnant women, who have done it awhile, give advice. Interested in learning about vaccinations vs no vaccinations. Also, after the baby is born is it true not to use lotions because the baby has it's own natural oils and the lotions just plug the pores?

Thanks so much for your help.

I have watched your video and sushi looks pretty easy. What is the 4th item. Is it a type of spinach? or something else. It look very good to eat. I love humus (humus has one 'm' to it) and have done it in very different ways and always a favorite in the family but not raw? What are the ingredients?

Humus' is a Jewish delicacy and is pronounced with a 'g' Gumus but spelt with an 'H'

well, i'm basically a rawfoodie in every sense of the words, that is i restrict myself to making only very basic raw food dishes and seldom tackle making anything with even the tiniest hint of sophistication :-) ....
however, the raw (veggie) sushi looks so tempting that i've 4warded the link to my both my housemates (bernadette & em), suggesting that we hold sushi making & tasting contests ... but secretly wishing they while they both do the making, which i admit does look easy & like fine, i'll still restrict myself to just the tasting :-)

Nice recipe Alex, I never thought of hummus in sushi, though I'll probably grate the ginger very finely since I can't imagine chunks of the stuff.

I too would like the hummus recipe if it is raw. I've only made it with cooked garbanzos. Do you just substitute sprouted garbanzo beans in whatever recipe you use?...then maybe add raw tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, water, hing/garlic, water and then food process till creamy?

Good luck on your raw cleanse for 40 that's inspiring. Maybe I'll do something like raw for 21--a little more tame. Have fun!

I make an awesome raw hummus the exact way i make it cooked. Only difference is the beans are sprouted and not cooked. ;)

Art, what is your diet like when you are not cleansing: breakfast, lunch & dinner? How do you supply protein to your body? While you're cleansing do all your meals consist only of salads, juices and smoothies? I have no juicer; could I use store bought juices, like cranberry, grapefruit or apple?

In your sushi demonstration I didn't quite catch what yoou used to roll up the ingredients and what type of material you used on the outside to tighten everything. A recipe for making humus would also have been helpful.

Will your video on raw vegans for fighting diabetes be shown again in the near future?

Alex,

Awesome tips, I'll keep these in mind for my next cleanse. I have two more tips to add that have helped me a lot in my previous cleanses.

1) Drink lots of water.

I discovered the "healing power of water" a while back (from Mike Adams) and then my wife got us going on drinking 1/2 our body weight in ounces every day. At 210 lbs, that's 105 oz for me a day (non-floridated RO/DI from glass jugs) . I started out drinking about 60 oz a day for a week, then added another 10 oz a day for the next week, and so on until I got up to my desired amount. A week before my cleanse, I try to up my intake a bit, so I'm on a roll during the cleanse.

2) Try to do it with a partner.

When two of you are doing it; one pulls the other along and vise-versa. Having soneone else in the same boat also seems to ease the pain a little. Someone to suffer along with. Funny thing is that now I've been 80-90% raw for a couple of years now, the cleanses get easier and easier.

Delanae, no raw fish. . Get some recipe books and you'll find lots of Lovely recipes.. Home-made raw garden burgers (sun burgers), vegetable pates, soups, breads and crackers. .. all raw.. The list is endless..
Never a need to revert to fish.. or anything with a face, eyes, nose, mouth..

Alex, love your videos and information. I'm a long-time raw and living vegan. You don't need to cut those ends off.. eat them. And use a bit of water to seal the last edge. . It works wonders. .

Raw sushi is great.. your videos are awesome. Keep on keeping on.

Yea, liked the raw sushi video and wrote down the ingredients and such to try when I'm done with this juice cleanse. I recently bought my son a sushi-making kit so I'll use that. Right now I'm on day 3 of my first juice cleanse and looking at your 5 easy tips has helped re: keeping it simple, cuz I hv found myself becoming a bit overwhelmed with the juicing recipes in the book I'm using and the amount of grocery shopping. My initial goal was 5 days then I thought I'd make today or tomorrow my last day (whichever day the vegs ran out) however, after watching ur video I'll do 5 days. One thing I've found though is it gets expensive buying all the right organic vegs & fruits. But I guess better that than end up sick in the hospital! p.s. Loved watching the all the tapping.

Love this! My husband and I are doing the Raw for 30 because he's a type 2. We are on day 10 and his BLS is steadily going down. Love this program.

About the Sushi... would raw fish be allowed? I see you didn't add any so I'm curious. I have yet to find a written program even though I purchased all the bonuses I could find. ??? So we're getting pretty burnt out on fruit smoothies and salads. We've been out for sushi but it gets pretty expensive quickly so I am very interested in making sushi. Thanks for this recipe. I will make sure to try this very soon.

Hi Alex
thanks for great ideas. I have done raw food and juice fasts and cleanses over the years.
I Understand your wife is doing the cleanse with you; I counsel breastfeeding mothers - would it be ok for them to do that whilst breastfeeding?
Thanks

I am not a diabetic and it does not run in my family but here's something new...I have a cat who was recently diagnosed with diabetes as well as heart disease! I give him caninsulin 6.5cc 2x's a day. He's only 12 years old! To me, this is a young cat. I once had a cat that lived to be 23 so my little guy is just a teenager to me. Something is wrong in this world when people and pets are getting these kind of diseases. I have been slowly introducing a raw meat diet to my cat. Cats are carnivores. They don't like vegetables so Dr. Cousen's diet doesn't help me. This is the second cat that has had diabetes that I've owned. They were both fed commercially prepared kibble and canned foods from age 6-8wks. Apparently diabetes is on the rise in pets nowadays. I had never heard of animals having such diseases until I was almost 50. It's hard to test the cat's blood as I have to prick the tiny vein that runs around the outer edge of his ear. I am looking into homeopathics for help in trying to reverse this disease and so far Vanadium, prepared homeopathically, has shown promise with some cats. Perhaps Dr. Cousens could expand his expertise and include the animal kingdom in his research before the pandemic explodes in this area, too.

I highly recommend a "salt water flush" as a cheap and non-invasive alternative to colonics and enemas. Google it. All you do is take 1 tablespoon of natural non-iodized sea salt with one litre of filtered water on an empty stomach. In an hour you'll have your enema. Make sure you take probiotics as you do this as well.

Works great, it's safe, and cheap!

Hi Folks,
As an RN who deals with diabetic patients ( and staff members) on I daily basis, I can't thank you enough for the information that you are sharing. Over the past year I have increased the raw factor in my diet. You have inspired me to further increase my raw/cooked ratio. Today I have watched two of your videos; making sushi and apple pie. I wonder why in both recipes, foods are peeled, ie apples & cucs. My understanding is that the peels contain valuable fiber and nutrients. I have ordered your video Alex, and I praise you for going public with your passion. If there is ever anything I can do for your organization, please don't hesitate to write. Thank you, Pamela ( a Connecticut Yankee in the mountains of Arizona.)

I had a vitamin d level of 25 last spring, started going out getting sun 20 min to an hour a day. Had levels checked in september they were up to 38 my A1C last spring was 8.5 in september it was 7.4. Sun was the only thing I did different. Anyone who says vitamin D doesn't help...I have proof it does! I have a whole list of things that cleared up as my D levels went up as well!

I am a type II diabetic. I have watched your film Simply Raw and both encyclopedia disks. I have started eating Raw Vegan and my blood sugar is slightly coming down. (5 days). I am truly believing in your program and am committed to sticking to it in order to reverse my diabetes and live a happy healthy life. I have purchased every raw vegan book I could find and have set up my kitchen to do all the things I need to do to keep on track. Please keep me posted on further developments. Also, is there a place I can find the recipes which were prepared on the film, especially the granola. Is there anything I should avoid in terms of sweeteners (agave necter?) I am also starting Dr. Hyman's program in the next few days. Thank you for caring.

Kindest regards,

type 1 since 1964...everyone needs to excercise firstly. Next, try no carbs, only sprouts or sprouting seeds. I was off all meat for 23 years, until i became very weak! I recently began to eat organic, grass fed meat, then turkey, salmon, eggs and cheese. My strength came back, and blood sugar much much better. I think the no carb and all meat diet is good, i ask God toforgive me, but I want to CURE this problem. The regular insulin is the easiest to kick! So stop all carbs, don't CHEAT!!! Oh, don't forget the omegas from fish oil, spirulina, blue green algae, zink calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D...try 20 minutes both sides of the body everyday. Try the penta water at night, little sips only. The green drink of celery, cucumber, and kale has low natural sugar, and can be fasted with for 10 days easily...test the blood as a maniac for the cure...., God Bless :~ )

Hi Laurie,

I would agree that it is good to take insulin when you need it. The goal with the raw food diet is to reduce the amount of insulin you need as it is a synthetic form of insulin when you are taking it for diabetes.

I've been a Type 1 diabetic for 46 years and started eating raw a week ago.I'm already taking half the Insulin I used to and with vigorous exercise I don't think I need any.It all comes down to common sense and getting to know God.The food he gave us should be the only food we eat. It's not an easy change of life but when you start to see the results It gets easier every day.Love God and he will guide you through every thing.

For people with type 1 diabetes, it's okay to take insulin - it's a hormone their body needs just like those without type 1 diabetes. Why do you make it sound so evil? Please refer to type 2 diabetes when you just say diabetes. Thank you.

I've been a vegetarian for over 35 years--consuming fish occassionally... yes, I started out being vegetarian when I was just a baby!!! LOL. My children and grandchildren have been vegetarian from birth. Your dvd was very inspiring for my family. Recently, we had played with the idea of moving into the next phase of our health journey by becoming vegan--planning to start out over 50% raw vegan. Shortly after, I came into contact with your dvd. 'Simply Raw' has convinced my fiance and myself to jump into the concept and action of being healthy so that our children can gain momentum and make a bigger impact on our community at large. I can't thank you enough for your support.

I have made the raw sushi before only not with the hummas. I cannot tolerate the taste of garbonzo beans, so I use a paste made from the avacado or pintos or black beans, whatever I have on hand. I have not tried it with the cilantro, but it sounds good so I will in the future. Thanks for the videos!

I love what you are doing to spread the word about overcoming diabetes. I have friends who really need to see this video and your story. More doctors need to become aware of what the raw food can do for their patients.

I've watched you grow over the years, well, maybe just since 2003, and have been so impressed by the smart work you do in an effort to influence folks taking the road to optimal health. Bravo, you two!!!! (I also helped Fatima finish one of your mom's books to Portuguese a few years ago. I love what you all stand for!!)

I really enjoyed the interview! I always listen to things on my computer with headphones, so as not to disturb the rest of my family. I did have to increase the volume, but was able to hear everything quite clearly. Thanks for posting it.

I really enjoyed the interview - thank you very much for making it available. I couldn't hear the interview very well either but then I found that using earphones (and pressing them close to my ears) made the sound much clearer and I could follow everything. If you're having trouble with the volume try that.

As a 5year 70% raw vegan and 5 cleansing years on a raw natural hygenine diet. I am so appreciative of all the work and community on this path. Reversing my own multiple illness's I can attest to this lifestyle and living foods. From many years of experimenting I truly stand behind sprouting, blending, and fermenting. The other half of the equation is the electrical energy and to that I will share---LEARN and practice Qi-Gong, practice Meditation, practice Qi-gong, practice Meditation, practice Qi-gong, practice Meditation---add a little prayer, practice practice PRACTICE!!!

i saved this interview because it is so informative. thanks so much for offering it for free, i'm in transition from vegetarian to vegan to raw food vegan: daily green smoothies with added seaweed, algaes, flax and chia seeds. now i'm determined to make sure all my ingredients are organic and that my cooked foods are uncontaminated and not chemically processed. i agree with judy that we need more info on why a raw food diet becomes a problem if you need treatment for fracture. i want to learn more from this dr bisci. thanks!

WOW! That was an awesome interview! It was practical, inspiring, and so positive. I loved Fred's attitude towards progress rather than perfection! One question I have is about his references to people on a raw food diet being more challenged with medical treatments (ie: General Anethesteatic - sorry I know that spelling is horrible), could you share more! THANKS!

Our family is about 50% raw. This interview is an inspiration to take it to the raw diet to the next level.
Love Dr Bisci's pragmatic delivery as well as his wisdom.
Any information about raw diet and Parkinson's? Seems like more and more people around us are being diagnosed with this disease.
Thank you

Hi Louisa,

I know the volume wasn't great. Sorry about that. That's the only issue with filming with flip cams...the volume can be really low unless you speak up and we didn't do a great at that! :)

Next time. Thanks for the feedback everyone! :)

I liked very much however I also had a big problem with the volume. I put that as loud as could be and even that was hard to hear.

I am not diabetes and not a vegan. I have a 3 years old boy and I am 25 weeks pregnant. I am not sure how to make the transition. I really want to be like Dr. Fred and my dream is to teach all of this to my kids and family. I would like some help!!!! SOON!! Whenever I watch videos like that I feel worst because I am not close and the worst thing is that I have no idea how to start.
Is there any way to meet Dr.Fred? HELP!!!!!!

Thanks so much Alex for this great interview! Fred Bisci is such a sensational rolemodel for the raw food diet and lifestyle! Its especially important to have examples of people who have been on this diet for so long, and to see the results of the obvious anti-aging effects!

After studying natural hygeine 15 years ago, I progressed to about an 80 percent raw-vegan diet with trmendous results! After doing some research on the non-vegan raw diets that include raw meats, including red meat along with raw fish, eggs and cheese, I decided to try adding some raw proteins to my diet a few times a week a couple years ago. I do feel even better now, and its easier to put on extra muscle mass from weight training! What do you feel about adding
RAW PROTEINS TO THE RAW DIET, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR AN ATHLETE???

Thanks!

I try to eat a salad with brocccoli and califlower and other stuff atleast 4 times a week and I drink my green drink with avacado, lime, almond milk, english cucumber, green powder (chlorophyll). very filling and good for you. I am working my way to the better way of eating. I work out 4 days a week, cardio and weight and i am feeling good and looking better.

Alex

Thanks for all your efforts getting the interviewing for us to enjoyed.

On a score of 1-10 the volume was a No.2 with my computer on maximum volume, which was a shame.

On a score of 1-10 Fred Bisci was a super No.10. I love that man! His wisdom is so grounded in personal experience, scientific knowledge, flexibility, valuing and respecting people's differences, and making it work for people, starting with where they are at.

How amazing being all raw 40+ years. You're one of my role-models Fred... Louisa.x

Good information!!The Doc looks great!

I'm hungry to learn the next step. I'm a clean live-r, no caffine, alcohol, or processed food. I work in produce at the co-op, so I eat lots of fresh local veggies, kale smooties ect. But I find the raw food recipes to be very intiminating. Should I just bite the bullet make the investment and just buy the dehydrator, blender, and juicer?

I think this video is awesome. My son was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile diabetes when he was 10 (last year 2008). He's loving it. I saw this video so many times. However, he is a hip hop dancer and wants to be in whatever other video you shoot. Holla back

Man, this is a great interview! I like what he says about eating late at night and I never knew why you shouldn't untill now. Raw foods are powerful, it's a movment thats happening all around us. I went 100% raw lost 80 pounds in 4 months and people all around me are changing too! All I did was make the conscious decision to improve my health and it changed a few of my family members lives. My mom lost 10lbs, my cousin lost over 40lbs, my brother in-law lost over 20lbs, by eating more raw or leaving out certain foods. You guys can read alittle bit about me on my webpage. I'm excited for this weekend because i'm going to be a volenteer for the Longevity Now program in Costa Mesa. And I will be applying to work for the Tree of Life organization early next year. Thank you Alex Ortner for your contributions in the Raw Movement! My fav food is raw pizza too.

Alex,
Thank you so much for putting this interview out where so many can view it at no cost. To see an 80 year old man looking as fit and healthy as Dr. Bisci after 40 years on a 100% raw diet is certainly an inspiration and will help convince the critics that a raw vegan lifestyle is not only possible for the long run, but that it is worth the extra effort and inconvenience.

Alex
I love Freddie and what he has to say, but it was very difficult to hear. Had to sit right by the computer and still missed a lot.
I have been to Dr Fred, he is a sweet heart! I was hoping he could help me get off insulin, but when he looked at my diet he said I was doing already what he would have suggested.
The offer is still on--Mat and Angela will be at our potluck in York Maine Sat night at Aimee's Livin' Magic.

I enjoyed Dr. Bisci a tremendously! I am a vegan raw foodist for 42 years with a heavy background in fasting for long periods including four years of being a total abstinent breatharian. I know exactly what he is speaking of on living free. I also know that the more you move up in age the less you eat, the better you feel, and each time I had a fracture I went to the doctors for them to find them in total shock when I tell them I don't have a personal doctor or that I have not had medicine in forty-two years! that is a shock to them but a blast of absolute delight on my part. IT'S WONDERFUL BEING A LIVING VEGAM RAW FOODIST!
I know it is a shock to some but I do not believe we're suppost to die. SO LET'S MAKE THE NEXT TRANSITION BY HAVING VICTORY OVER DEATH!
